offers in duty free and f&b ever increasing

The amount of offers in duty free and F&B is ever-increasing, and FLIO has included a booking capability that can be used for any paid service at an airport.

FLIO is the brainchild of Stephan Uhrenbacher, founder of Qype and 9flats.com, who wanted an app that would help make airports a more intuitive and enjoyable experience for travellers. It was launched in August 2015, combining easy access to free WiFi, arrivals and departure information, insider tips, and exclusive retail offers and discounts with key retailers, food & beverage outlets and passenger service providers at airports around the world.

It has been enthusiastically embraced by consumers, as well as attracting the interest of a number of major companies in travel retail who are now working with FLIO. “FLIO generated an unexpectedly high level of awareness within the industry,” says Stephan Uhrenbacher, CEO FLIO. “Between the Apple launch and now the Android launch we concentrated on increasing the geographic scope of FLIO. We increased our content from 60 to now 200 airports covered and our WiFi coverage from 30 airports to 350.”

The amount of offers in duty free and F&B is ever-increasing, and FLIO has included a booking capability that can be used for any paid service at an airport. Consumers can currently book and pay for Heathrow Express and Aspire lounges through FLIO.

“The Android version really changes the ball game for us now,” explains Uhrenbacher. “It doubles the universe of potential users which means we effectively double the business potential for the retailers and other concession companies who use FLIO to promote the goods and services they provide to airport passengers. And of course it now makes sense for us to begin our own consumer marketing initiatives. Our goal is to reach millions of frequent travellers within the next few years.”

Further additions to FLIO in the coming months will include the facility to book instant premium lounge access, and also trains and other ground transportation.
