UFIS-AS: supporting airport operational management

UFIS-AS also premiered its persons with reduced mobility (PRM) solution in 2008. A special version of the UFIS Resource Manager is now available, designed to help airports meet the requirements within the European Union to provide services to PRMs. Task allocation to the people providing the service is carried out using PDAs and WLAN access.

UFIS Airport Solutions (UFIS-AS) already has a wide base of customers and an extensive range of systems installed in more than 25 of the world’s leading and busiest airports. At the same time, it is also looking to the future and is working continuously on updating its technology to offer IS/IT managers the most efficient and beneficial solutions it can.

With this in mind, UFIS-AS is working currently on its next generation of software product, entitled UFIS JB. Athens International Airport is the first to have the solution implemented. A new showroom has recently been opened there serving as the test environment prior to the system going live in 2009, replacing the current UFIS installation. UFIS JB offers a state-of-the-art package incorporating new, yet tried-and-tested, technologies.

UFIS JB offers improved real-time performance and increased platform independence. The scalability features of the new platform will allow not only large-sized airports but also small- and medium-sized airports to take advantage of the solutions offered in the new UFIS product line. The development will also include functionality to create real what-if scenarios and make available optimised information for collaborative decision-making (CDM).

UFIS-AS has also created WebFIDS, an extension to its Flight Information Display System (FIDS) package, enabling airport operators to use any type of PC-based display that operates using a browser.

One of the disadvantages of earlier browser-based FIDS solutions was that if the network connection failed, the display would show the typical ‘web page not found’ screen. This has been resolved in UFIS-AS’ WebFIDS module. Even when the server fails, the screens will continue to display the last information they received. Once the connection has been restored, updated information will be displayed.
