EASA launches the aerodrome rulemaking activities

The basic Regulation foresees that by the end of 2013, the implementing measures for aerodrome safety shall be adopted. To this end, the Agency has started the necessary rulemaking activities. Due to considerations of resource management and further research into the Agency’s approach it was decided that the work on apron management services, aerodrome equipment, and heliport design and operations would be postponed.

ACI EUROPE best airport award winners for 2010 announced

The 20th ACI EUROPE Annual Assembly, Congress and Exhibition also hosted the 6th Annual ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards in Milan during the gala dinner. This year’s judging panel was drawn from a well-respected group of independent experts including the European Commission, EUROCONTROL and the European Disability Forum.

The Week The Air Stood Still

On 14 April, the hitherto little-known Icelandic volcano – Eyjafjallajökull – began erupting volcanic ash. At first, the situation was viewed as a passing, meteorological inconvenience, but the ensuing threat of air space contamination by volcanic ash soon paralysed 80% of European air space, resulting in the cancellation of more than 100,000 flights and an unprecedented breakdown of European mobility. SMAG CONFERENCE: Regional Airports come together in Croatia

The 3rd annual ACI EUROPE SMAG Conference and Exhibition was held in Dubrovnik from 15 to 17 March. Hosted by Dubrovnik Airport, with additional support from its sister airport, Zagreb, the event welcomed some 200 delegates from all over Europe. Robert O’Meara reports.

ACI EUROPE meets new EU Transport Commissioner

On 15 April, representatives of ACI EUROPE, including President Ad Rutten, COO of Schiphol Group and ACI EUROPE Director General Olivier Jankovec, had a meeting with European Commission Vice President Siim Kallas and several members of the Commissioner’s cabinet.
