    Due to Commissioner Franco Frattini’s appointment as foreign minister in Silvio Berlusconi’s new government at home in Italy, Antonio Tajani has been nominated to replace him as Italy’s representative in the European Commission. Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has opted to transfer the Justice, Freedom and Security portfolio to Transport Commissioner and Vice President Jacques Barrot.
