Retailers recognised at Budapest Airport’s Annual Awards

The very best of Budapest were recognised during a special ceremony held on 7 February 2019 to mark the efforts of those business partners who play an integral role in the continued success of the Hungarian gateway.

Now in its 12th year, the airport’s Annual Awards Ceremony has proven to be the perfect platform and opportunity to celebrate and thank all of Budapest’s associates who have a significant impact on the development of the airport’s aviation and retail progression.

The line-up of proud winners at Budapest Airport’s 12th Annual Awards Ceremony – an evening to recognise those concessionaires, airlines and business partners which stood out in various domains during another record-breaking year for the Hungarian gateway.

Serving a record 15 million passengers in 2018, Budapest recorded overall sales of €190 million for all commercial units. With a significant 22% increase in F&B sales in particular, the airport bestowed special gratitude to those commercial partners who play an important role in making the airport a location to experience and not just travel through.

Retailer of the Year awards went to: Memories of Hungary Kft (SkyCourt), Magyar Duty Free Kft (T2B), and SSP Hungary – Camden Food Co. (SkyCourt).

“To be able to say a personal thank you to all our partners, while also recognising outstanding contribution in delivering exceptional performance and results, is an honour and something we take great pride in doing,” said Jost Lammers, CEO Budapest Airport, addressing over 300 guests representing carriers, concessionaires, operations and many other enterprises. “We couldn’t produce such robust growth and development without the endless efforts and cooperation in yet another record-breaking year.”

Lajos E. Nagy, Managing Director, Memories of Hungary Kft, commented: “This accomplishment reflects the dedication we have to ensure all our customers receive a five-star experience in our store. We offer over 10,000 real local products to ensure we cater for every potential customer – from the youngest to the oldest, our customers can find what they are looking for. Opening the largest speciality unit at Budapest brought with it huge responsibility to succeed and, with the support of the fantastic team at the airport, we’re proud to have recorded the largest increase in turnover last year.”

Ildikó Jankovich, Managing Director, Magyar Duty Free Kft, added: “This award is the ideal way to cement our 20-year partnership with Budapest Airport – the number one distributor of original, branded items in Heinemann’s entire European network. Since opening our first store at the airport in 1998 we’ve experienced more than 50% increase in sales, last year being no exception as we recorded further growth. Thank you to all at the airport who are part of this fantastic team.”

With future plans in place to ensure Budapest’s commercial development continues, 2019 has already witnessed the opening of Cafe Frei – a premium coffee shop chain providing the opportunity to ‘taste the world’ through more than 70 different recipes.

Meanwhile, as SSP opens a new Yum Cha unit on SkyCourt’s mezzanine, a number of other units will be revamped and refreshed during the first half of the year, including: Heinemann Multi-Brand Accessories store; Playersroom; Swarovski, Tommy Hilfiger / Hugo Boss, Caffé Ritazza, Upper Crust; Negroni and Seasons.
