Oman Airports celebrates Grand Opening of new Muscat International Airport

Muscat International Airport officially celebrated its Grand Opening ceremony on 11th November, on Oman’s 48th National Day.

On 11 November, 2018, Oman’s 48th National Day, Muscat International Airport officially celebrated its Grand Opening ceremony, directed by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Oman’s Council of Ministers.

The new $1.8 billion passenger terminal at Muscat International Airport commercially opened on 20 March, 2018, and has been designed and constructed to the highest standards of quality and service. The airport features Omani-themed architecture, state-of-the-art technologies, and exceptional passenger experience.

Currently, Muscat International Airport has initial annual capacity for 20 million passengers, with an expansion potential for 75 million passengers per annum.

Some of the key features of the 580,000sqm passenger terminal include: three piers linked by a central area, 12,000sqm food & beverage area, an airside hotel with capacity of 90 rooms, and two five-level car parks.

The new $1.8 billion passenger terminal at Muscat International Airport commercially opened on 20 March, 2018, and features Omani-themed architecture, state-of-the-art technologies, and exceptional passenger experience.

A new 4km long runway has been built to accommodate wide-body A380 and Boeing 747, while the airport’s southern runway has also been rehabilitated, increasing its length to 4km, making it usable by wide-body aircraft.

Additionally, a 32,000sqm cargo terminal was built as part of the airport, with a capacity of around 350,000 tons per year, with the potential to expand to 500,000 tons per year.

Currently, national carrier Oman Air operates up to 200 flights each day from the new terminal building.
