Ingredients for Success – Heathrow publishes sustainable restaurant guide

Heathrow Airport has released the UK’s first airport sustainable restaurant guide – Ingredients for Success. Created in partnership with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, and with the collaboration of the leading food & beverage retailers at the airport, Ingredients for Success combines retailers’ own sustainability goals with those of Responsible Heathrow 2020 – the airport’s plan to enhance local, regional, and national economic and social benefits of Heathrow in a sustainable way.

Simon Heppner, Founding Director of the Sustainable Restaurant Association: “The public’s appetite for a sustainable dining experience is increasing significantly – wherever they are eating out. So for Heathrow to put sustainability at the heart of the passenger experience is a very welcome and positive move. We look forward to seeing the airport’s food retailers embrace these targets and use them as a base from which to aim even higher.”

“As the UK’s first guide of this kind, Ingredients for Success is a call for action for the food & beverage retailers who wish to join our airport on its journey to become the world’s most sustainable hub airport,” explains Jonathan Coen, Retail Director at Heathrow Airport.

The guide sets out sustainability targets for all food & beverage retailers on the airport. It focuses on six key areas:

  1. Reducing energy use by 10% for every person served
  2. Implementing a systematic approach to saving water
  3. Contributing to the airport’s efforts to recycle 70% of all food waste
  4. Encouraging sustainable behaviour by employees
  5. Giving back to the local communities around the airport, including participating in Heathrow’s charity
  6. Ensuring sustainability is at the heart of the passenger experience

Ingredients for Success is part of the wider work of the Heathrow Sustainability Partnership, a collaboration between all sectors at the airport – from airlines and ground handlers to construction companies and retailers – all working hard to deliver a responsible and sustainable Heathrow.
