Turkish Airlines CEO to give keynote speech at İGA-hosted ACI Airport Exchange Istanbul

Dr Temel Kotil, General Manager and CEO, Turkish Airlines, will deliver the keynote speech in “The Istanbul New Airport Development Conference” which will be the central feature of this year’s ACI Airport Exchange, which is being hosted by İGA Havalimanı İşletmesi A.Ş. the company behind Istanbul New Airport, the €10.2 billion mega-hub which opens in 2018.

Staged in central Istanbul, 8-10 December, the İGA-hosted ACI Airport Exchange is expected to attract more than 2,500 visitors from every arm of the global air transport industry as a result of the intense interest in the project, as well as over 150 exhibitors, in what is on course to be the biggest and best-ever ACI exhibition.

In his keynote speech Dr Kotil will address: “What are the global competitive implications of combining the world’s biggest airport with ‘the largest airline on Earth’? Istanbul New Airport is also the first entirely tailor-made mega-hub – so will it also be a mega-carrier’s dream?”

In a soon-to-be published interview with Airport Business Dr Kotil expressed supreme satisfaction: “I am very happy with the fact that this new airport is being built – the aviation hubs used to be centred on Northern Europe, but in this century it is our turn” said Kotil, observing that the existing Istanbul Atatürk Airport had already overtaken Amsterdam Schiphol to become Europe’s fourth largest airport, and could pass Frankfurt for third place in 2015, leaving only Paris CDG and London Heathrow ahead.

The position of Istanbul as a mega-hub is already very much a sustained reality, with both Turkish Airlines and the Istanbul airport system enjoying double-digit year-on-year growth for 10 years. Indeed Turkish Airlines’ range of 242 Istanbul destinations considerably outstrips even Delta at Atlanta (224) and its next biggest rival in Europe, Lufthansa, which has 169 destinations from Frankfurt.

As the first major global event centred around the game-changing Istanbul New Airport mega-hub, the İGA-hosted ACI Airport Exchange 2015 will also feature a major exhibition for airport suppliers expected to be ACI’s largest yet.

Alongside this impressive exhibition, and in addition to the regular five ACI Airport Exchange conferences, “The Istanbul New Airport Development Conference” will be entirely dedicated to the €10.2 billion new airport, and combined with the first-ever large-scale guided visits to the airport’s construction site.
