Iberia, Vueling and airberlin launch smartwatch boarding passes

Vueling SmartWatch 2

Barcelona-based carrier Vueling worked with Sony to develop a digital boarding pass specifically for the SmartWatch 2.

Wearable technology continues to gradually gain traction as both a personal and enterprise tool, and three European airlines have embraced smartwatch technology to offer a new form of boarding pass. Building on the popularity of mobile boarding passes, Iberia, Vueling and airberlin have developed boarding passes for Samsung, Sony and Pebble smartwatches respectively.

Iberia has teamed up with Samsung to develop a boarding pass for the Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch, airberlin’s is available for Pebble and Pebble Steel devices, and Vueling has partnered with Sony to develop a boarding pass for the SmartWatch 2. Travellers who own these devices can choose to store their boarding pass on their device, as an alternative to carrying a more traditional paper or smartphone-based version.
