Allgäu Airport Memmingen: Bavaria’s high-flyer

Allgäu Airport

Allgäu Airport occupies an ideal position in the triangle between Zurich, Munich and Stuttgart. Approximately 5.8 million people live within the catchment area of 90 minutes. “This potential is our great capital,” said Ralf Schmid, spokesman for the airport.

Additionally, there is an export-oriented industry nearby, which gives the regional airport an important role as vital supporting infrastructure.

Further customer benefits are short distances, quick turnarounds, low-cost parking, perfect transport connections via the motorway intersection A96/A7 and of course numerous direct flights to attractive destinations, domestic and abroad. This has all brought a high growth to the Bavarian airport since its opening in June 2007.

Allgäu Airport in Memmingen is officially Germany’s highest passenger airport – on a clear day, there are wonderful views of the Alps.

Technically speaking, there has been air traffic in Memmingen since 1937. The former military airfield now backs up the infrastructure of the region. This new phase in the life of the airport was initiated by a group of small and medium sized enterprises that recognised the strategic role that airports can play as engines of economic growth. Allgäu Airport GmbH & Co KG counts altogether 69 limited partners and capital tender of more than €14 million. Nearly 90% came from the private sector – an aspect which has placed great commitment behind the project.
