ACI EUROPE President Address: Turning commitment into action at a critical time
As I near the end of my second term as President of ACI EUROPE and prepare to handover to my successor after the 19th ACI EUROPE Annual Congress, it has been interesting to look back and take stock of all that’s changed since June 2007. Those days looks positively rose-tinted by comparison with the testing and turbulent times that have befallen the European economy since then.

DAA reducing costs and driving revenues
Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) is responsible for the management, operation and development of Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports. The airports are of key strategic importance to the exporting economy of Ireland and despite the severe effects of the economic downturn, DAA is pressing ahead with an ambitious capital investment programme. Declan Collier, Chief Executive, outlined the company’s strategy to Ross Falconer.

BAA remains industrious despite order to sell three airports
BAA has applied to the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) to the review the final report delivered by the Competition Commission on 19 March, which requires it to sell London Gatwick and London-Stansted airports as well as either Edinburgh or Glasgow airport. Ross Falconer reports.

CDA action plan to reduce CO2 emissions
The 4th Aviation & Environment Summit took place in Geneva on 31 March and 1 April. The challenges of the economic crisis didn’t diminish participation – the presence of some 400 industry leaders and environmental experts is testament to the continued importance attached by the aviation industry to the challenge of climate change. EU to suspend ‘use-it-or-lose-it’ rule on airport slots
Following a proposal from the European Commission on 7 May, the European Parliament adopted a proposed Regulation that suspends the ‘use-it-or-lose-it’ rule on airport slots for the 2009 summer season (ending on 26 October). It is a decision that ACI EUROPE believes will hit airports hard at a time when they themselves are feeling the effects of the economic crisis. Ross Falconer reports.

LCCs dominate in Ireland and Northern Ireland
